I was reading this article and I do agree with it, however, I went and purchased a card today at the store, only because they didn't have the CD, and I wanted it and didn't want to have to shop around. So that worked out well for me. Other than that, if you're going to pay to download a cd, you might as well save the gas money needed to go to the store and pick up a card, drive home, then download it. Just go to one of the millions of music download sites and do it in one step. I'll be curious to see how this works out for them.

From day 1 I thought that DRM free music was a no brainer and when I saw the BMG headlines, I was hopeful that we'd finally see an end to this garbage. I hadn't really taken a close look at their announcement until I read your article. Now I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how they managed to screw up a perfectly good idea with even more restrictions. Making this a gift card only program is weaksauce. If you are a customer in the store, you still have to download the music when you get home and if you are a customer online you need to go to the store before you can download anything? I just don't understand what they are thinking.
